    First Workshop of the Project on Rising and Fading Powers: International Order in Transition

    Objective: To bring the project's commissioned researchers together to discuss the work plan and methodology of the project.


    14-16 January, Macau
    Macau IT (Information Technology) Congress '98 (UNU/IIST)

    Objective: As one of the sponsors, UNU/IIST will make a presentation on computer-aided instruction and also hold a software exhibition with demonstrations of prototype software. The event is organized by the Macau Computer Association and supported by the Macau Foundation.

    Training Course on Solar Energy Utilization

    Objective:To provide training in the basic principles of solar energy technologies, energy conservation techniques, energy assessment and planning methods through lectures, site visits of installations and by carrying out projects.

    UNU/ILA Advisory Committee Meeting

    Objective:To provide plan and discuss the programme of activities for 1998.


    26-31 January, Surat, India
    Training Course on Specification and Verification of Real-time Systems using Duration Calculus (UNU/IIST)

    Objective:Organized with Tata Institute of Fundamental Research and S.V. Regional Engineering College, the course covers lectures, tutorial and laboratory sessions on Duration Calculi. Approximately 30 participants will attend the course.


    27-28 January, Tokyo, Japan
    Symposium on Human Rights in the Asia-Pacific Region

    Objective:To discuss ways and means of international commitment and cooperation for the promotion and protection of human rights in the Asia-Pacific region among experts on human rights from these countries. The symposium is held in commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It is jointly organized with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.
