    Training Course of the Brucellosis Research Network on Molecular Biology Applied to Diagnosis and Epidemiology of Brucellosis (UNU/BIOLAC)

    Objective: To train researchers from Latin America in molecular biology techniques used in diagnosis, epidemiology and basic research in brucellosis.

    Training Course on Production and Use of Food Composition Data in Nutrition (FoodComp'98)

    Objective:To provide training in the generation, handling and processing of food composition data and to show how those involved in the production of data and the compilation of these data into food composition tables and databases can contribute to improve nutrition. The course is organized as a cooperative activity of Wageningen University, UNU, FAO and the International Union of Nutritional Sciences.

    15th INCEDE Open Lecture/UNU Public Forum in commemoration of IDNDR Day

    Objective: To hold a joint public forum with the International Center for Disaster-Mitigation Engineering (INCEDE) of the University of Tokyo concerning "Information: Too much... Too little... - Role of Communication Media in Disaster Reduction" to commemorate the International Decade for Natural Disaster Reduction (IDNDR) which focuses on "Natural disaster prevention and the media" as the theme of 1998.    Related press release

    Regional Workshop on “Democracy in Africa” (tentative title), organized with the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA)

    Objective: To analyze the specific characteristics of democracy and democratization in Africa with emphasis on governance in an attempt to bring together economic, social and political issues. This workshop is one of the regional workshops organized under the UNU project on The Changing Nature of Democracy.

    Fourth African Conference on Research in Computer Science (CARI'98)

    Objective: To promote postgraduate training and research in computer science in Africa, present research activities currently undertaken in the universities and research centres of Central and West Africa in the field of computer science, and follow-up on the recommendations of the previous conferences.

    Formal Techniques for Software Development by UNU/IIST in cooperation with Ministry of Education of China (MEC)

    Objective:To develop software engineering courses and promote programming methodology research for Chinese universities around the concepts of formal techniques for software development. The course will introduce the RAISE methods and the Duration Calculus approach to the participants. Approximately 40 teachers from the key universities in China are expected to attend.

    International Conference on Industrial Structure, Innovation Dynamics and Technology Policy (UNU/INTECH)

    Objective: To bring together three distinctive research perspectives: (a) the 'appreciative' theory of Technological Change, (b) the Economics of Industrial Dynamics and Macroeconomics Growth, and (c) the 'systemic' views on Learning, Institutions and Competitiveness, and provide an opportunity for the exchange of views on existing ideas and concepts derived from these three different research directions. The conference is organized with the financial support from the European Commission.
