The UNU Mission Statement is:
to contribute, through research and capacity building, to efforts to resolve the pressing global problems that are the concern of the United Nations and its Member States.
This mission implies four key roles based on the mandate given to the University by its Charter:
- To be an international community of scholars;
- To form a bridge between the United Nations and the international academic community;
- To serve as a think-tank for the United Nations system; and
- To contribute to capacity building, particularly in developing countries.
