Dr. Fukuya Iino
Academic Programme Officer
After receiving a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Tokyo in 1999, Dr. Iino successfully proposed long questioned formation mechanisms of dioxins in incinerators as a postdoctoral researcher at the United States Environmental Protection Agency. In 2001, Dr. Iino's interests in chemical management and environmental governance led him to accept a position as a principal investigator at the Research Center for Chemical Risk Management, National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, in Tsukuba, Japan. Dr. Iino has served as an expert delegate from Japan to the OECD, Dreyfus Fellow at the University of Connecticut, Regional Editor for Asia for a US based journal (Environmental Engineering Science), Steering Committee member for the UNU-Gwangju Institute for Science & Technology joing program, and Editorial Member for "Chemistry and Education" by the Chemical Society of Japan. Dr. Iino joined the UNU as an academic programme officer in September 2004 where he will continue his work in environmental governance focusing on environmental monitoring and risk management.
