UNU Web Privacy Policy

This privacy statement discloses the privacy practices for the United Nations University (UNU). UNU is committed to the privacy of individuals who visit and interact with update.unu.edu and follows these practices.

What personally-identifiable information does UNU collect on update.unu.edu and how does the organization use it?
UNU is the sole owner of the information collected on this site. We will not sell, share, or rent this information to others in ways different from those disclosed in this statement. UNU may collect information from our users in various ways.


UNU Update
If a user wishes to subscribe to the UNU Update newsletter, we ask for an email address. This information is used to contact the subscriber to tell them about new issues of the UNU Update newsletter. The subscriber will only receive information from UNU which they have specifically requested.

Surveys
From time to time UNU may request information from users via surveys as part of efforts to improve our family of web sites and also to enhance dissemination of information about UNU activities to interested persons. Participation is completely voluntary. Information requested may include contact information (such as name and postal address), and demographic information (such as gender, occupation, age, or education level). This information will be used for purposes of monitoring or improving our sites and communications activities, and sending users the information in which they have expressed an interest.

Log Files
UNU uses the IP address from your Internet connection to analyze trends, administer the site, track users' movements and gather broad geographic information for aggregate use. IP addresses are not linked to any personally identifiable information.

Sharing
UNU may share aggregated contact, demographic and other information with the various regional training centers and programmes that make up the UNU system. Information will not be shared with any other entity.

Links
The UNU Update web site contains links to other sites. Please be aware that we are not responsible for the privacy practices of other sites. We encourage our users to be aware when they leave our site to read the privacy statements of each and every web site that collects personally identifiable information. This privacy statement applies solely to information collected by this web site.

Updating Information
If you are a subscriber and your email address changes, if you wish to maintain your subscription you should simply subscribe again. Returned email addresses will be deleted automatically.

Choice/Opt-out
Users who no longer wish to receive UNU Update advisories or other information from within the UNU system may opt out by replying with "unsubscribe" in the subject line of the email, or by emailing us at: update@hq.unu.edu with "unsubscribe" in the subject line.

Notification of Changes
If UNU decides to change its privacy policy, we will post those changes to this page so our users are always aware of what information we collect and how we use it. If at any point we decide to use personally identifiable information in a manner different from that stated at the time it was collected, we will notify users by way of an email. Users will have a choice as to whether or not we use their information in this different manner. We will use information in accordance with the privacy policy under which the information was collected.
