UNCTAD chief attends World Report book launch

The Secretary General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Supachai Panitchpakdi, was the featured speaker at the launch of the first book in the World Report on Regional Integration series, a collaboration between UNU Comparative Regional Integration Studies programme (UNU-CRIS) and the GARNET Network of Excellence.

At the World Report book launch (from left): Luk van Langenhove (UNU-CRIS), Nicola Harrington (UNDP), Supachai Panitchpakdi (UNCTAD), Afsane Bassir-Pour (UNRIC) and Philipe De Lombaerde (UNU-CRIS).

The World Report project is designed to monitor trends and prospects for regional governance worldwide, filling a gap in the supply of information and becoming the leading reference for future discussion among policy-makers, academics and the broader public on the role of regions in world governance. The project is being undertaken with the assistance of UNCTAD, the five regional UN Economic Commissions and UNU World Institute for Development Economics Research (UNU-WIDER).

The first book, Multilateralism, Regionalism and Bilateralism and Trade and Investment, was presented by the editor Dr. Philippe De Lombaerde, of UNU-CRIS. Other speakers at the Brussels launch included Nicola Harrington, Deputy Director of Policy and Communications, UN/UNDP Brussels, Luk Van Langenhove, Director of UNU-CRIS, and Afsane Bassir-Pour, Director of UN Regional Information Centre,  Brussels.
