will co-host an International Symposium on Environmental Accounting June 4
at the UNU Centre in Tokyo. This symposium is being organized by the UNU
Institute of Advanced Studies (UNU/IAS) and the Japanese Environment
Ministry in cooperation with the United Nations Division for Sustainable
Development, Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DSD/DESA). Environmental accounting,
a technology for identifying, analysing and measuring the costs and
effects of environmental protection measures in business activities, is
expected to be a key instrument for shaping a sustainable economy and
society with low environmental impacts. Participants in the symposium will examine the worldwide trends in environmental accounting and international efforts taken in this field. Presentations on World Trends of Metrics of EMA, The UK’s Promotion of Environmental Accounting and the Role of Government and Japan’s Trends in Environmental Accounting will be followed by a two-hour panel discussion on The Future of Environmental Accounting. Experts from academic and business communities, including corporate managers in charge of environmental accounting, will attend.
