Shunji Yanai appointed Shunji Yanai, a professor at Chuo University and former Japanese Ambassador to the United States, has been appointed Senior Adviser to the Rector of the United Nations University. Prof. Yanai will
advise Rector Hans van Ginkel on all matters related to the university's activities as well as relations and outreach in Japan. Prof. Yanai graduated from the University of Tokyo's law faculty and entered Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1961. He served in a number of high-level capacities in the ministry, including Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Director-General of the Foreign Policy Bureau, Executive Secretary of the PKO Office, Director-General of the Treaties Bureau, and Japanese Consul General in San Francisco. |
