Conflict resolution theme Prevention and Resolution of Conflict will be the theme of the third UNU Global Seminar – Shimane Session to be held August 3-6 at the University of Shimane. Participants will discuss the causes of social/ethnic/regional conflicts, mechanisms for reducing the level of tension in conflict situations, and strategies for avoiding escalation to violence.
The seminar will open with keynote speeches by UNU Vice-Rector Ramesh Thakur and Watanabe Akio, president of the Research Institute for Peace and Security. The UNU Global Seminar is an annual programme designed to enhance awareness about global issues among university students and young professionals in Japan by providing an opportunity for active interaction with international scholars and experts. The Shimane Session is jointly organized by UNU and the Foundation for North-East Asian Relations, with support from Hamada City, Shimane Prefecture, and the Japan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
