UNU-Kirin fellowship programme
UN University and the Kirin Brewery Company have agreed to extend the UNU-Kirin Fellowship Programme for a third five-year term starting next year. UNU Rector Prof. Hans van Ginkel and Kirin president Dr. Koichiro Aramaki signed an agreement to extend the programme during an April 5 symposium and award ceremony to honour 2001-2 UNU-Kirin Fellows for completing their studies at the National Food Research Institute (NFRI) in Tsukuba. The goal of the UNU-Kirin Fellowship Programme is to enhance the capacity of food research institutions throughout Asia. The Kirin Brewery Company supports the programme by covering the costs of five fellowships annually for outstanding young researchers from developing countries for tenure at the NFRI and by supporting follow-up research activities of the fellows after their return to their home institutions. The symposium focused on capacity development in food science and technology in developing countries. The UNU-Kirin fellows, five young food scientists from Bangladesh, China, India, Mongolia and Viet Nam, presented the results of their one-year research training at the NFRI. |
