UNU Institute for Natural Resources in Africa (UNU/INRA) has completed a major upgrade of the University of Ghana's plant tissue culture laboratory, an important facility for research, training, germplasm conservation and dissemination of information on indigenous African food crops. The US$65,000 project increased laboratory space significantly and a seminar room and a computer room were constructed to assist data processing and analysis. The laboratory now caters to 10 full-time postgraduate students, a five-fold increase. Some 31 scientists and laboratory technologists from West and Central Africa have been trained at the facility since 1998. |
