is moving to Yokohama UNU Institute of Advanced Studies (UNU-IAS) will move from Tokyo to Yokohama on April 1. Yokohama Municipal Government has agreed to give the institute rent-free space in the Pacifico Yokohama convention centre in the city's Minato Mirai district. Since it was founded eight years ago, UNU-IAS had been located next to UNU Centre in Tokyo's Shibuya ward. Last year, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, which had provided the space free and also paid its utilities, demanded last year that the national government shoulder the estimated 860 million yen (US $8 million) in annual costs. The university will pay for its utilities after the relocation, while the city of Yokohama will provide free of charge some 1,500 sq. meters of space within the Pacifico complex.
