Coastal pollution focus of
marine environment workshop

Coastal pollution, material recycling and the impact of aquaculture on the coastal environment will be the focus areas at the fourth International Workshop on Marine Environment being organised by UN University and the Ocean Research Institute of the University of Tokyo in Otsuchi, Japan, February 11-17.

The workshop will include lectures from marine environment experts in the Asia-Pacific region and all participants will be expected to make brief presentations about their own research activities, bringing a regional perspective to the meeting and promoting the exchange of ideas and possible collaboration. There will also be a field trip allowing participants to inspect Japanese field research activities in the Iwate Prefecture’s coastal areas.

UNU is encouraging applications from young scholars and researchers from countries currently included in its coastal hydrosphere researcher network – Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. For the Pacific islands, participants from Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Tonga, Vanuatu and other Micronesian Islands are encouraged to apply.

The Landbase website contains information about previous workshops in this series.
