UNU to showcase African
initiatives at TICAD III

UN University will present an exhibition of its Africa-related projects and programmes at the Third Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD III) to be held September 29- October 1. The TICAD process has been recognized as a leading initiative for African Development over the past ten years.

The UNU exhibition is intended to familiarize conference participants with the breadth of the Africa-related work being undertaken by UNU Centre and by several UNU regional training centres and programmes. UNU Press will mount a display of its books on African issues.

Also available at the TICAD conference will be a new UNU publication Integrating Africa: Perspectives on Regional Integration and Development, edited by UNU Rector Hans van Ginkel, Julius Court and Luk van Langenhoven, Director of UNU Comparative Regional Integration Studies (UNU-CRIS).

The book explores how  regional integration in today’s globalized world can strengthen development and security in Africa as well as the continent's participation in the global economy. Contributions include speeches and presentations made at the 2002 Africa Day Symposium on “Integrating Africa,” organized by UNU in collaboration with the African Diplomatic Corps, Tokyo, as well as articles by researchers and experts on African development.

Together, the contributions deal with many different aspects and varieties of regional integration in Africa, and examine their role in African development.
