Conference to study forces shaping Information Society The global and regional forces that are shaping the information society will be examined at an international conference – Globalisation, Regionalisation and the Information Society – co-organised by UNU Comparative Regional Integration Studies (UNU-CRIS) to be held in Bruges October 9-10. Although the concept of globalization represents the information society as homogeneous and universal, different regions of the world are facing different struggles to transform and adapt their societies to the new realities. The conference will investigate the links between globalisation, regionalisation and the Information Society, firstly by analysing the concept of the information society: How is this concept interpreted in different regions of the world? What are the implications for content and national identity? How can the information society be measured? The second theme is Information Society governance: What are the global, regional and national policies and how are they linked? Community and sectoral perspectives also will be discussed, including how the information society is influencing education, communities, politics and public services worldwide. |
