opens at UNU Centre UN University has opened a new Media Studio at its Tokyo headquarters. The new facility, established in collaboration with Keio University, the LEAD Japan Programme and Cisco Systems K.K., will function as a node in a global network designed to raise public awareness of and disseminate research findings on pressing global issues. The Media Studio will support online learning activities implemented by the UNU and its partners, and will provide access to the next generation of broadcasting for a network of universities in the Asia-Pacific region and across the globe. The Media Studio will include a number of advanced elements, such as support for multicast networking, real-time as well as post non-linear video editing, and video over IP. It is envisaged that it will also provide a range of services, including IP/Internet broadcasting, video-on-demand, real-time streaming, e-learning, and interactive communication, on various broadband infrastructure. The partners will also explore the potential for developing next-generation broadcasting technology to facilitate highly scalable video streaming of live, project-based materials. This would enable researchers in the field, for example, to disseminate video materials via the Media Studio with information on the state of the environment in different parts of the world. UNU Centre events will also be broadcast. |
