President Mogae to reveal the
The President of Botswana Festus Mogae will visit UNU Centre in Tokyo March 18 to talk about how his country became a model of democracy, good governance and prudent economic management. The President will deliver a lecture entitled "Botswana's Success Story – Overcoming the Challenges of Development in which he will talk about the reasons for Botswana's success as well as the challenges it still faces, including geo-political and environmental factors, human resource development, health and other critical development issues. President Mogae will also explore the topic of “Diamonds for Development”, including role diamonds play in Botswana’s development and the Kimberley Process to rid the world of conflict diamonds and secure the interests of legitimate diamond exporters such as Botswana, the world’s number one producer of gem diamonds (by value). The lecture, which is being co-organized by UNU, Embassy of the Republic of Botswana and the Japan Institute of International Affairs, and supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, will take place from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the UNU Centre in Shibuya-ku, Tokyo. |
