New book takes a close A new book from UNU Press takes a searching look at all aspects of conflict prevention. In Conflict Prevention: Path to Peace or Grand Illusion, a diverse group of expert authors evaluate the institutional record of conflict prevent, identify current trends and make recommendations on improving organizational capacity. Contributors reflect on how existing mechanisms and instruments for conflict prevention can be properly evaluated and improved. They focus on several institutions that are at the forefront of conflict prevention policy – the UN, the EU, the OSCE and NATO – and show how informational and analytical needs can be used to enhance the quality of conflict analysis and its policy relevance. Conflict Prevention, part of the UNU series on Foundations of Peace, is edited by David Carment, associate professor in the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs of Carleton University, Ottawa, and Albrecht Schnabel, Academic Programme Officer in the Peace and Governance Programme of the United Nations University, Tokyo. |
