Project: Understanding and Managing Insurgent Movements
By developing an in-depth understanding of the causes, motivations, objectives, strategies and tactics of insurgent movements, this project aims to increase the capacity of local, state, regional and international actors to resolve contemporary insurgencies and prevent the emergence of new insurgencies. The project identifies mechanisms and strategies for international organizations to prevent the militarization of political disputes and, if prevention fails, to strengthen the capacity of international organizations to mediate between governments and insurgency movements in an effort to limit the spread of violence. An international group of researchers examines insurgent movements' ideologies and motivations; short, mid, and long-term objectives; and strategies and tactics for social and political order.
