"The Governance of Globalization"
The United Nations University and the Department of Economic and Social Affairs will host a seminar on "The Governance of Globalization." The meeting is scheduled to take place Wednesday, May 2, 2001 from 1:15-2:45 p.m. in the Dag Hammarskjold Library Auditorium in the Secretariat building.
The purpose of the seminar is to provide a forum for the dissemination and discussion of the findings of a study prepared by the UN Universities World Institute for Development Economics Research, with support from the United Nations Division for Social Policy and Development of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs. In order to cope with the complexities of macroeconomic management in a globalizing world economy and to promote international cooperation for development, the study makes a number of recommendations, including the establishment of new institutional arrangements and measures to enhance the effectiveness of the Bretton Woods institutions and the World Trade Organizations.
Speakers will include the coordinator of the project, Deepak Nayyar, Vice-Chancellor of Delhi University, Jose Antonio Ocampo, Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, and Professor Richard Falk of Princeton University.
