The United Nations Environment Programme, in cooperation with the United Nations University, the World Meteorological Organization, the International Strategy for Natural Disaster Reduction and the National Center for Atmospheric Research will be organizing a seminar on "Reducing the Impact of Environmental Emergencies Through Early Warning and Preparednessthe Case of El Nino-Southern Oscillation."
Speakers will address such issues as the viability of existing governmental infrastructure, management approaches, information flows, forecasting capabilities and early warning and disaster preparedness in country responses to El Nino related events.
The seminar will be held on 27 October 2000 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Conference Room D in the Secretariat Building.
