UNU TO HOST OECD INT'L WORKSHOP ON SOCIAL SCIENCES AND INNOVATIONThis workshop is being organized by the UNU, the Institute of Innovation Research (IIR) of Hitotsubashi University (Japan), and OECD. Participants will discuss the roles of social sciences in the context of rapidly progressing innovation in the new millennium. Plenary session 1 (chaired by IIR Director Seiichiro Yonekura) will focus on "Promoting Innovation," and plenary session 2 (chaired by UNU Rector Hans van Ginkel) will consider "Innovation, Science and Society." Three working groups will meet to examine issues of technological innovation, social innovation, and the societal impacts of innovation. Workshop participants will include invited international experts and delegates from OECD member countries. Professor Nathan Rosenberg of Stanford University will deliver the keynote address, entitled "Challenges to the Social Sciences in the New Millennium." The keynote address, beginning at 4:00 p.m.on 29 November in the U Thant International Conference Hall (3rd floor of the UNU Centre) is open to the public. Admission is free, although advance registration is required. Simultaneous Japanese interpretation will be provided. Media representatives are cordially invited to attend.
