"HUMAN RIGHTS AND THE ROLE OF THE UNITED NATIONS"
A UN DAY SYMPOSIUM
AT THE UNITED NATIONS UNIVERSITY

United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Sadako Ogata will deliver the keynote address at the United Nations University's UN Day Symposium on Friday, 23 October, which will open at 14.00 hours with a video message from UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan and will feature a panel discussion on human rights coordinated by NHK news presenter Aiko Doden.

Panellists will include Dr. Ibrahim Badran, former Human Rights Adviser to the Government of Jordan; Norway's Ambassador to Japan, Mr. John Bjørnebye; UNESCO Human Rights Chairholder Prof. Walter J. Kamba; Dr. Gary Troeller, UNHCR Regional Representative; and Prof. Hideo Sato, Senior Adviser to the UNU Rector. The programme of the symposium is given below.

Simultaneous interpretation in English and Japanese will be provided. News media representatives are cordially invited to attend.
