The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and the United Nations University will co-organize a symposium on development cooperation at the United Nations University Headquarters on Monday, 22 June 1998, inviting the leaders of several major international organizations, representatives from NGOs and ODA recipient countries.
World Bank Senior Vice President Joseph Stiglitz, UNICEF Executive Director Carol Bellamy, UNIDO Director General Carlos Magerinos, and UNDP Associate Administrator Rafeeudin Ahmed will be among those taking part in discussions on the modality of development assistance based on a “new development strategy,” focusing on the role of the international organizations and the coordination among them.
The symposium will take place from 9.30 to 17.00 hours in the UNU’s International Conference Hall. Simultaneous English-Japanese interpretation will be provided.
