Convention Coordination
The General Assembly, in its resolution 55/198 and earlier on the occasion of the five-year review of UNCED, highlighted the need for greater collaboration and synergy among the various international conventions and agreements as a means to enhancing their overall impact and effectiveness. UNEP, UNDP and the United Nations University (UNU) have sought to promote such coordination through meetings and discussions among the relevant secretariats and United Nations system agencies. Such discussions have recognized that a certain degree of coordination already exists through joint projects undertaken between several convention secretariats but that continuing effort is required in that area.
