Japan's best and worst CO2 emitters
The Global Environment Information Centre (GEIC) - a joint UNU-Environment Agency of Japan (EAJ) initiative - conducted a study to find out the best and worst CO2 emissions-causing electrical applian-ces sold in Japan. The study was called "Choice by CO2." It measured the kilograms of carbon emitted by more than 700 appliances, based on average household use per year. Both GEIC and the EAJ hope the results of this study will influence consumers' choice when they purchase new equipment and will encourage the makers to set higher environmental standards. The study was based on information contained in the manufacturers' brochures.
