New UNU/ILA director named
TIn early March, UNU Rector Hans van Ginkel announced the appointment of Dr. Kennedy Graham as Director of the UNU International Leadership Academy (UNU/ILA). Dr. Graham was selected from more than 160 international applicants.

Dr. Graham served from 1972 to 1988 in the New Zealand foreign service, and from 1989 to 1995 was Secretary-General of Parliamentarians for Global Action, a worldwide network of legislators committed to transnational cooperation. Most recently, he served as Director of Planning and Coordination of the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA) in Stockholm.

Dr. Graham holds degrees from the Universities of Auckland and Victoria (Wellington) and the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy (Boston). He has published several books and numerous articles on the subjects of global security and democracy.

The UNU/ILA, located in Amman, Jordan, aims at training potential global leaders. Its 3rd International Leadership Programme, which will run from 28 July to 31 August, will focus on the theme of "Leadership in Conflict Resolution and Peace-keeping." Over 60 participants from 45 countries participated in last year's programme.
