| The Foundation has announced the 29th Eisaku Sato Essay Contest Theme. This year's theme is "Many people expect the United Nations to play a major role in world peace and in protecting the safety and welfare of the people worldwide. Express your views on whether the United Nations is sufficiently responding to the expectations, and if ‘no’, discuss the causes and constraints for this failure; if ‘yes’, discuss some recent success cases." The deadline is 31 March 2013. Information for potential contestants. | ||||||

| The 28th Eisaku Sato Essay Contest Award Winners were announced in July. Mr. Mark Flanigan, International Christian University, Rotary World Peace Fellow was awarded the First Place "Award of Excellence". Ms. Tomomi Sato, Ministry of Defence and Mr. Hiroto Sawada, Keio University Student were awarded the Third Place "Award of Effort". The theme of the contest was “In a situation where a devastating natural disaster has occurred, and people remain apprehensive about a possible reoccurrence, prompt measures and efforts for prevention as well as restoration are indispensable. What are the role and potential efforts of the United Nations in such a case?" The Award Ceremony was held on 17 July 2012 at the United Nations University. | ||||||

27th Eisaku Sato Memorial Prize Essay Contest Award Ceremony was
held on Thursday, 21 July 2011. The winners were presented with their
awards by Mr. Akira Nishigaki, Chairman of the Foundation. Mr. Kazuki
Shimizu, a Nagoya University student was awarded the First Place "Award
of Excellence". Mr. Yoshiyuki Sagara, a graduate student at Tokyo
University was awarded the Second Place "Award of Brilliance". Mr.
Shozo Yokoi, 72 year-old retiree was awarded the Third Place "Award of
Effort". |
