Dr. Akiyuki Kawasaki
Research Fellow
Dr. Akiyuki Kawasaki is Research Fellow at the Environment and Sustainable Development Programme, United Nations University, and at the Institute of Industrial Sciences, The University of Tokyo.
He studied Architecture and Planning at Yokohama National University (YNU). He also received MS and PhD at the same university on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) use for urban disaster response from earthquakes and landslides. Prior to joining UNU he was a Research Fellow and Adjunct Associate Professor at the YNU, attached to the 21st Century COE program "Environmental Risk Management for Bio/Eco-systems", where he analyzed the relations between headwater mountain forests and urban environment. His main interests are utilizing GIS for conducting multidisciplinary environmental researches, especially for water resources and environmental management.
