Professor Keiichiro Fuwa

Professor Keichiro Fuwa is an Adjunct Professor to UNU and Senior Advisor to UNU ESD's Project on the Coastal Hydrosphere. He is also former President of both the Japan Society for Analytical Chemistry and the Environmental Society, Japan, member of the Science Council of Japan and Professor Emeritus of the University of Tokyo. His previous appointments include serving at the National Institute for Environmental Studies as Deputy Director (1986-88) and Director General (1988-90). He has published nearly 300 papers on various aspects of analytical, bioinorganic and environmental chemistry and written several books on methods in analytical chemistry as well as on the role of trace metals in the biosphere. In 1976, Professor Fuwa received the Japan Society for Analytical Chemistry Award for his contributions to spectrochemical analysis of biological samples and in 1983 he was presented with the Miyake Award for Geochemistry.
