New book examines governance needs of globalized economy
The governance needs of the world economy and polity are examined in depth for the first time in a new book from UNU World Institute for Development Economics Research (UNU/WIDER). Governing Globalization – Issues and Institutions, edited by University of Delhi Vice- Chancellor Deepak Nayyar, evaluates the experience of institutions with a focus on the United Nations, the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and the World Trade Organization to sketch the contours of reform and change necessary in the existing system. It analyses issues of emerging significance such as global macroeconomic management, transnational corporations, international capital movements and cross-border movements of people to suggest that there are some missing institutions which are needed. Meanwhile, WIDER is also releasing a policy brief entitled Governing Globalization: Issues and Institutions, by Deepak Nayyar and Julius Court, detailing the WIDER research project New Roles and Functions for the UN and the Bretton Woods Institutions, directed by Prof. Nayyar. It will be the fifth publication in the Policy Brief series, a collection of policy-focused summaries of WIDER projects and manuscripts. |
