2004 UN Day Public Lecture & Forum “Working for the UN” Programme In commemoration of the 59th anniversary of the United Nations and in celebration of the UN Day 2004, UN agencies in Japan have jointly organized a public lecture and forum under the theme “Working for the UN.” HE Ms. Tarja Halonen, President of the Republic of Finland, will deliver a lecture “Toward a Fair Globalization: A Finnish Perspective.” As 2004 is also the 30th anniversary of the Japan Associate Experts (AE) / Junior Professional Officers (JPO) Programme, Prof. Masatsune Katsuno of Keisen University will deliver the keynote address “Message for Young People Wishing to Join the UN System” followed by presentations, using videos and slides, by young officers of various UN agencies working for the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) about their experiences in the field. UN Day intends to deepen the understanding of the UN system and its activities, as well as to familiarize Japanese society with the UN in general. Date
