Sogo Okamura
Senior Adviser to the Rector
(1986 - 1994)

Prior to being appointed Senior Adviser to the Rector, Dr. Sogo Okamura had served as Chairman of the Study Group on Possible Cooperation between UNU and the Japanese Academic Community and was a member of the (Japan) Ministry of Education, Science and Culture's Advisory Committee on the United Nations University.

Dr. Okamura began his long career as an educator teaching engineering at the University of Tokyo in 1947. From 1973 to 1975, he served as Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Tokyo, and in 1987 was named an honorary professor.

Dr. Okamura was a member of the Science Council of the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture (Japan) for over a decade (1974-86) and member of the Japanese National Commission for UNESCO (1983). From 1981 through 1985, he served as Director-General of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, and in 1985 was appointed Chairman of the Natural Science Committee, Japanese National Commission for UNESCO.

Dr. Okamura was born in 1918. He has published numerous books on topics related to electrical engineering.
