THE UNITED NATIONS UNIVERSITY
GLOBAL SEMINAR SERIES — ARCHIVES

UNU Global Seminars are held annually in Japan and abroad in an effort to increase awareness and enhance understanding of contemporary global issues and the role of the United Nations. This aim is achieved through close interaction of students and young professionals with scholars and experts working in the UNU's global networks.

The Global Seminars began in Japan in the Kanto area in 1985 (UNU Global Seminar - Shonan Session), and in the Kansai area in 1995 (UNU Global Seminar - Kobe Session). In Japan, additional UNU Global Seminars are held in Tohoku, Shimane, Hokkaido, Kobe/Awaji, Kanazawa, and Okinawa. UNU Global Seminar participants are sought by individual application throughout Japan. A limited number of fellowships are available for foreign students studying in Japan.

The expansion of the UNU Global Seminars abroad began with the Seoul (South Korea) Session in 2003. The Seoul Session is open to students living in Korea, Japan, China and Mongolia. The inaugural Hawai'i Session was held in March, 2004. The Hawaii Session addresses students residing in the Pacific Area.
